Supplier Spotlight: M.P. Leather
In early 2007, Massimiliano Mennonna founded M.P. Leather in the northern region of Italy. Massimiliano’s interest and passion for exotic bio-leathers inspired him to export, trade, and finish rare animal leathers in the town of Varese, Italy. Today, his company provides exotic and luxury leathers constructed from crocodile, python, stingrays, pirarucu, and masked water snake. Materials are available by various composition (belly skin, bones, panels, skins, paws), which allows end uses in furniture, shoes, belts, bags, and accessories. M.P. Leathers’ colorful, contrasting use of dyes accentuates the natural features of animal skins. MP Leathers has worked alongside Nova Kaeru in the presentation of exotic luxury leathers at tradeshow sin Italy and the US.
“Italy is the largest snakeskin consumer in the world, and one of the largest manufacturers of snakeskin products; the United States accounts for about 50 percent of the Italian export market for the finished goods, followed by Japan at 25 percent.” – Roads And Kingdoms
Unlike Gucci, who commercially farms pythons in Thailand, MP Leather's focus on the final stage of leather production, the finishing and dyes. Below are some examples of Massimiliano’s work.
M.P. Leather also specializes in stingray leather, a highly underrated exotic leather. It is highly durable (25 times stronger than cowhide leathers) and has a unique, yet beautiful, texture. Adult stingrays have varying degrees of size, therefore, can be used in extra large luxury applications such as upholstery, car interiors, and trims, while also being found in smaller applications like wallets, purses, jewelry and inlays.
